Affirmative action unit purchasing program files, <[197- -ongoing]>.

The Office for Children as a state agency is required to participate in programs of the Office of Minority Business Enterprises (MBE) and the State Office of Minority and Women Business Assistance (SOMWBA), and in the Small Business Purchasing Program (SBPP). SOMWBA and SBPP certify eligible businesses as minority or women-owned or controlled, or as small businesses respectively. SOMWBA encourages state agencies to do a limited amount of preferential contracting, while SBPP sets aside five percent of state contracts for certified small businesses. Series is created by the Office for Children's affirmative action unit to monitor compliance with these programs and to supply data for MBE, SOMWBA, and SBPP annual reports.
